Cooking time. Boil the ingredients for 30 minutes. Assembling the salad - 20 minutes. Leave in the cold for 2 hours.

We need:

  • Cod liver (regular canned food) - 250-270 grams
  • Potatoes (boiled in their jackets) - 1 pc. large (200-250 grams)
  • Carrots (boiled) - 1 pc. large (200 grams)
  • Eggs (hard-boiled) - 4 pcs.
  • Green onions - 1 bunch of medium thickness (adjust to taste)
  • Salt and mayonnaise (about 100 ml) - to taste between selected layers

Boil the eggs hard (10 minutes). Boil jacket potatoes and carrots.

To easily peel vegetables and eggs, immediately after cooking, place them under cold water.

We clean the boiled root vegetables and grate them on a coarse grater.





Chop the green onions very finely. Open the can of cod liver and drain the oil. It can be used to season other dishes. Mash the cod liver with a fork until it reaches a comfortable paste-like consistency.



We clean the eggs and separate the whites from the yolks.

How to easily separate the components of a boiled egg? We draw a knife across the egg, as if marking the middle circle. Open the halves and remove the yolk, as shown in the photo below.



Grate the whites and yolks, just like the other ingredients.



We take out a convenient tool for quickly forming the salad in layers:

  • Springform baking pan
  • And a silicone dough spatula, which is convenient for compacting layers of salad.

A regular spoon will do, just a little more dexterity is required.

We will assemble the salad in a baking dish (16-17 cm), placing it with the top smooth side down.



Distribute all layers evenly and gently press down.

The first layer is grated potatoes, which will absorb fat from the liver and prevent the salad from leaking and losing its shape.



The second layer is the cod liver itself.



The third layer is grated egg whites, on top of which we squeeze out a mesh of mayonnaise and without pressure (!) spread it over the entire surface.

When purchasing mayonnaise, choose vertical packaging. If it does not have a convenient tip, cut off a very small corner so that the stream of mayonnaise can be thin.



The fourth layer is green onions: it is convenient to distribute it with your hand. You can also spread mayonnaise on top of this layer, but do not spread it and press the slices.





Fifth - grated carrots. We will lightly compact this layer again, cover it with mayonnaise and distribute it tightly (!) so that all the carrots are covered.







The last - sixth - layer: grated shavings from egg yolks.



Secrets of taste and stable form

As you noticed, we use mayonnaise and salt to taste. It is usually worth adding salt to the densest layers - potato, protein, liver and carrot. And only those ingredients that are too structural (green onions, protein) can be coated with mayonnaise. Then the salad will not float, but will be appetizingly soaked in the sauce.

The choice of mayonnaise is yours. We use a classic (without additives) sauce that is light in fat, because the dish is oversaturated with fat due to fish liver.

The result of the work is colorful in spring! Let the salad stand in the refrigerator for 2-4 hours to get the perfect ensemble, which is so easy to cut into portions, like a very tasty cake.



Amazing with cod liver and prunes

A recipe in which everything is exactly the same as in the classic salad, but we replace the green onions with finely chopped onions and pieces of prunes. Do not be surprised! A creative twist with these sweet dried fruits will make... a fish dish even more tender.

Finely chop a small white onion and pour boiling water over it for 2 minutes to remove the bitterness.

We need:

  • Cod liver - standard jar (250-270 grams)

  • Hard-boiled eggs - 3 pcs.
  • Carrots - 200 grams
  • Apple (sweet and sour variety) - about 100 grams
  • Lemon juice - 2-3 teaspoons

Cod liver - 1 jar;
. chopped champignons - jar (400 g);

. garlic - 3 cloves;
. boiled potatoes - 2 pcs.;

. tomatoes - 2 pcs.;

Take the boiled eggs and cut them into 2 parts: 2/3 (large part) and 1/3 (small part). The smaller part will be the cap of our mushroom. The big one is the leg. Remove the egg yolk from the halves into a separate bowl.


While the caps are turning brown, prepare the filling. To do this, add cod liver and mayonnaise to the yolks. Let's mix everything.

Then we stuff our “legs”. If there is a small hole left from the yolk, you can carefully use a knife to enlarge it.
