What kind of drink is this? A common but erroneous opinion: this is a separate subtype of alcoholic beverages. In fact this is - vermouth prepared according to a special recipe.

The word "vermouth" translated from German means "sagebrush". It is this wormwood bitterness that we feel when sipping a martini. Manufacturers play up the bitterness, minimizing it and diluting it with spices and sugar - the result is an aromatic alcohol.

A martini recipe at home is complicated not by an abundance of cunning combinations, but variety of ingredients. Another difficulty: products are measured in grams; an excess of even one gram changes the taste of the drink. Therefore, if you are planning to start production (based on white, rose or red wines) at home, get electronic scales. What are martinis made from? Ingredients:

  • herbal mixture;
  • water;
  • vermouth.

Let's prepare an extract of herbs that will be included in the martini, and then make homemade vermouth.

Herbs

The first part includes:

  1. Alcohol (How many degrees? It is advisable to take medical grade, 96%) in the amount of 85 ml.
  2. Water (25 ml).
  3. Wormwood (2 g).
  4. Pharmaceutical chamomile (1 g).
  5. Peppermint (1 g).
  6. Juniper berries (5-10 pieces).

For a martini recipe at home, the following additional ingredients are suitable:

  • cinnamon;
  • nutmeg;
  • vanillin;
  • cardamom.

Take about 3 g of cinnamon. The rest of the spices – a pinch.

Mix the ingredients, crush the berries, add water and alcohol. We insist in the dark for 14 days. The next stage is straining. Filter through gauze folded in 4 layers. The extract is ready.

Vermouth

The second part of the “complex drink” is vermouth. His recipe:

  • white semi-sweet wine (0.5 l);
  • sugar (70 g);
  • alcohol (0.5 cup);
  • water (half a glass).

If you would like to receive "Bianco", A "Rosso"- Take rose wine instead of white. There are recipes with - this is how Martinis are prepared in the Catalan style.

Make syrup from sugar and water. Fill with wine and alcohol and heat to 70ºC. Let cool. Mix with the herbal essence that was prepared earlier.

Cool under the window (if it’s winter) or in the refrigerator. The mixture is infused for a month, after which it turns out almost real martini with a shelf life of up to 5 years.

Quick recipe

Sometimes you want to pamper your guests delicious drink, but nothing is prepared at home. For this case, there is a recipe for a “quick martini”:

  • (30 ml);
  • vermouth (whatever you have on hand, 30 ml);
  • lemon juice (30 ml);
  • 3 mugs of lemon peel.

Place ice and peel at the bottom of the glass and fill them with all the indicated liquids. Of course, this is not a real martini, but the drink tastes good. Guests will not be dissatisfied.

Cocktails

Martini is drunk both in pure form and using it to make cocktails. Such cocktails give a slight intoxication and are pleasant to the taste. And if you add strong alcohol, you get James Bond's favorite drink - vodka martini. Recipe:

  • (2 parts);
  • martini (1 part).

The secret lies in the cooking process itself. Throw ice at the bottom of the glass and fill with alcohol. Mix. Pour in vodka and stir vigorously. The drink is served freshly prepared. After standing, it loses its edge.

Other martini cocktails:

  1. Vermouth and champagne. Take Martini "Bianco" and sparkling wine (100 g of each drink), lime or lemon juice (20 ml), lemon drop, a couple of ice cubes. Ice, juice and vermouth are the first to enter the glass, and then . The finishing touch is a slice of lemon placed on the side of the glass. Adding a sprig of mint will improve the taste of the drink.
  2. Cocktail with syrup prepared from Rosso martini. Place ice cubes in the glass to fill it by a third. Pour martini, then champagne in equal parts. Add 30 ml strawberry syrup. Don't mix the drink! This eliminates half of its taste.
  3. Juice with Martini “Bianco”. Choose juice to taste (orange, tangerine, grapefruit, pineapple, cherry) and mix with martini and ice in a cone-shaped glass that expands from the bottom up. You can dilute vermouth with juices as you like. It depends on whether a person prefers weak or stronger alcoholic drinks.

What to serve with?

There is an opinion: an appetizer for a martini is not necessary, as it can spoil the aftertaste. But any alcohol needs to be eaten with something, because in its pure form it irritates the stomach.

Sweet vermouth is served before meals, so we prepare a light snack:

  • olives;
  • olives;
  • hard cheese;
  • nuts.

What do you drink a martini with if it is served at the height of a feast? At any celebration, you will always find something to snack on with a drink - perhaps it will be canapés with cheese or sausages. Possibly hotter meat dish. How to drink vermouth so that Dionysus himself will envy you

It should be remembered that there are 4 types of martinis. It’s not difficult to remember them - red, yellow, pink and white vermouth. Good etiquette suggests drinking a martini before, not during, a meal, and drinking it slowly to get the most out of the flavor.

It will be a little more difficult with a small set of recommendations for making its use as pleasant as possible. So:

  • Martini is drunk from a cone-shaped glass with a long thin stem. Of course, at home you can drink it from any three-liter jar– This is exactly what will not affect the taste, but now we are talking about aesthetics. Moreover, in polite society it is customary to use vermouth this way;
  • To experience the full range of flavors, the martini needs to be cooled a little. 10-15 degrees in the drink will reveal its entire flavor bouquet to you. If you need a drink very urgently, 2-3 ice cubes can be your savior;
  • Undiluted vermouth is drunk without a straw. This is done only when it is turned into some kind of light cocktail or diluted with juice.

How to dilute a martini without killing the taste

You can drink martini neat, mixed with whiskey or gin. You can dilute it with pomegranate, grapefruit, cherry or orange juice(whatever juice you choose, remember that ideally it should be freshly squeezed). Some young connoisseurs of beauty do this with cola, soda or some tasty tonic.

In fact, in the preparation of a martini cocktail, despite its external rigor, there is moderate variety. For example, in addition to those mentioned above, you can also use sweet juices - mango or peach. The only caveat is that such a cocktail will turn out to be “for those who like” sweets. But alcohol, like many other things, is a purely individual thing. So no bartender will be the least bit surprised if you order him such a sweet cocktail.

The classic method of preparing a vermouth cocktail involves adding fresh natural juice. Only in this case is the preservation of the very real taste of the drink guaranteed. White vermouth has become very popular as such a cocktail. There are no particular restrictions on the choice, but the canonical recipe involves diluting the martini with juice. You can also add a slice of lemon or throw 2-3 ice cubes into it.

So, to prepare a cocktail, the drink and juice are mixed in a 1:1 ratio, if with ice - 1:1:1. If the goal of the event is to increase the strength of the cocktail, the proportions change accordingly - more drink, less juice. The optimal proportion in this case is 2:1

What is the right way to snack without biting?

How to do this correctly so that the next morning you don’t regret your attempt to get closer to beauty?

  • small lemon slices;
  • olives;
  • thinly sliced hard cheese;
