For those who love unusual gifts, as well as hand made, it will be interesting how to make a coffee tree with your own hands. To complete the craft, you only need a little patience and creative inspiration.

What is a topiary

Topiary is called ornamental trees, which are made from improvised tools and natural materials. It is believed that this hand made technology has its origins in the time of the Roman patricians, in whose gardens the trees were trimmed in a special way. The crowns had an unusual shape, usually resembling statues and various decorative objects.

Over time, the technology changed, it was worked on in Renaissance monasteries, Dutch and English gardens and labyrinths. Today, topiary is a popular type of gift.

The coffee tree, bringing visual aesthetic pleasure, will appeal to many due to its delicate aroma. Even after processing, the grains smell amazing, creating an atmosphere of comfort and tranquility in the room. You can complement the decorative tree with the help of various vintage trinkets.

A tree made of grains can look harmoniously in the interior, regardless of style. It can be an apartment with a refined classic style, a trendy loft or minimalism. Topiary will look advantageous against the background of mint and other shades of green. In any room you can place the original New Year's "tree" of coffee beans. With a similar decor, you can decorate a street gazebo or free space on the veranda.

Such crafts are not just an addition to the design of the room, but also a symbol of well-being, prosperity and happiness. The tree always symbolizes vitality, so the topiary is great as a gift for both women and men.

Tools and materials

For the manufacture of coffee tree prepare the following materials:

- Coffee beans. If possible, try to buy quality coffee. It is recommended to choose a product with evenly roasted grains that are relatively uniform in size. They must be carefully dried. Coffee beans will need to be glued “flat”, but sometimes this is done by placing individual grains in “flakes”;

- The foundation. A heart or a ball is taken as a blank. Such a base may be ready-made or made independently on the basis of cardboard or foam;

- Threads. They are needed in almost all variations of creating crafts;

- Dye. This material will be required for application to the workpiece;

- Tube or stick, wire. They are necessary in order for the tree to have a trunk;

- Gypsum or alabaster (preferably with mixing utensils);

- Scissors;

- Capacity for a tree. There could be a lot here different options- from a homemade pot and bowl to store planters and vases;

- Scotch tape (necessarily double-sided);

- Additional decorations. The craft can be decorated with various beads, ribbons and bows, cloves, cinnamon sticks, etc.

Coffee tree - step by step instructions

There are many options for how you can make a similar craft with your own hands. We suggest that you familiarize yourself with the instructions, which combine several techniques at once and differ from others in ease of execution.

Stage number 1. We work with the workpiece.

For a round topiary, use ready-made balls or make a ball with your own hands based on foam (it is better if wire is used for the barrel). You can also take the heart ready if you can find a suitable element, but it can also be cut out of a piece of foam.

The workpiece is pasted over with paper, wrapped with a thread (knitting), preferably of a dark color. Then it must be painted brown.

To make a symmetrical base for the crown of a tree in the shape of a heart, you will need cardboard (will serve as the basis), as well as cotton wool (needed to create volume). However, there is another way to make a heart. Cut out figures of the same shape from cardboard and lay a tube between them as a trunk. The two figures are glued together. Only after that you need to stick on ready basis cotton pads, which will be needed for volume.

When the workpiece is wrapped with a thread and dyed in the desired color, it can be safely covered with glue and coffee beans. It is recommended to do this not in one layer, but in two, and the first is laid with the side with a flat surface inward, and the other - vice versa.

Stage number 2. We make out the rod.

The tube or wire that you choose as the trunk must be covered with sheets of tissue paper, ribbons or string, and then glued to the crown. If you want, you can bend the wire. In the case of a cardboard heart, you need to connect the parts a little earlier than for other blanks, only a small hole will suffice.

Stage number 3. Plant a tree.

It is convenient to measure the amount of solution required using the container into which you insert the tree. Prepare a mixture of alabaster or gypsum, pour into a pot. Then insert the topiary in the center and wait until the mass hardens. When everything is dry, cover the “ground” with an additional layer of coffee (can be replaced with shavings or sawdust, tea leaves).

Stage number 4. We decorate the craft.

As decorations, you can use not only ribbons and beads, but also miniature figurines of animals, coarse fabric for a pot, star anise stars for crown decoration, etc.

Original ideas for topiary

Do not be afraid to experiment and show your own imagination when you make a coffee tree. There are many different variations of topiary, here are some stylish craft ideas.

Classical

Traditional coffee topiary has a round shape. There are no special decorations here, it is best if the craft is made in soothing shades using natural materials. This is a simple and really elegant option that is suitable for interior decoration in different styles.

valentine

A heart-shaped topiary can be given on February 14 as a surprise. The base is sold in stores with floristic materials, but you can also make it yourself using improvised means.

Such crafts seem incredibly complicated, but they are quite simple to do on your own. To do this, you need a piece of wire, a glue gun or a can of foam.

tree with flowers

A tree with delicate flowers will be a wonderful surprise for a gift on March 8, birthday, etc. In addition, such a topiary can be placed in the living room or bedroom.

With birds and butterflies

And the aroma of wood from coffee beans speaks for itself. In this article, we will show you how to make a tree from coffee beans.

  • decorative details to your taste;
  • cardboard, pencil, scissors.

How to make a tree from coffee beans

First, let's prepare the crown and trunk of our impromptu tree for work. It can be done different ways. The simplest, in my opinion, is to carefully tint the stick from all sides with a can of nitro paint of a suitable color. Remember that it is better to do this in a well-ventilated area, after placing paper or a napkin on the table so as not to stain the countertop with paint.

If you don’t like this option, or if you don’t have the desired paint at hand, you can tightly wrap the stick with twine or thread, leaving some free space on top, since part of the stick will still be inside the ball. The ends of the winding are fixed with a few drops of glue.

It is also better to tint the ball so that the white base does not show through the gaps between the coffee beans. It is ideal to use gold, brown or even black paint for this. To make it more convenient to work, the ball should be placed on a small stand, and the can should be kept at a sufficiently large distance from it, since fine-grained foam may begin to sinter unaesthetically under the influence of too much a large number aggressive paint. Theoretically, a foam ball can be replaced with a blank rolled up from crumpled paper and glued with soft napkins, but in this case you can hardly achieve a perfectly round shape.

When the paint on the ball is completely dry, you can start gluing the coffee beans. This work is simple, but quite painstaking. It is necessary to glue the grains as close as possible to each other, so that there are practically no gaps. In the center of the ball, it is better to immediately outline the place of the future connection of the crown with the stem-stick and leave it free in the process.

When the ball is completely decorated with coffee, we deeply insert the handle into the bottom of the ball. It is better to pre-fill a little glue there for reliability. Pay attention to the fact that the stick is not too long, and the whole structure is sufficiently stable.

So that the coffee tree does not hang freely in the vase, but holds firmly in place, the container should be tightly filled with some material. A special stuffing is best suited - holofiber, however, sand, sawdust, paper or synthetic winterizer are also suitable as a "soil". You need to stuff it as tightly as possible.

From thick cardboard we cut out a circle with a diameter slightly smaller than the neck of a vase or pot and make a small, neat hole for the handle in its center. The circle should completely hide the inside of the vase and fix the tree in its place. I used golden cardboard, matching the color of the wood. If this is not at hand, ordinary cardboard can also be pasted over with coffee beans - it will look just as good.

We insert the tree into the hole prepared for this and securely “plant” it in a pot. It remains to add a few decorative touches to your taste. I used butterfly-shaped copper pads, gluing them to the "crown" and "trunk". You can tie a pot with a ribbon or twine or place a few beautiful beads between coffee beans - nothing should limit your imagination.
The coffee tree is ready, you can enjoy the view and aroma, and, of course, brew yourself a cup of an invigorating drink.

No one can say exactly how long coffee has been known to the human race. This drink has firmly entered our lives. And people of a creative warehouse even made coffee a source of self-expression. And such a thing as coffee topiary is known to almost any person.

Application of coffee beans

So, how can we use coffee beans other than their intended purpose? Most often coffee is used in cosmetology. Scrubs or soap are made from it. Coffee beans can be used as a flavoring agent and as an ant repeller. And with a strong brewed drink, they rinse their hair and draw pictures. Using coffee beans of different shades, you can create mosaic paintings, as well as other masterpieces of art. One of these is coffee bean topiary.

What is a topiary

The word topiary itself, translated from Latin, means "curly haircut." Such art is often used by garden owners to decorate their property with figured shrubs.

Nowadays, the same term also refers to the creation of artificial miniature ornamental trees. In this article, we will take a closer look at how to make coffee topiary with your own hands and at minimal cost.

What you need to create a miniature tree

As in any business, there is a certain universal set of tools and materials for creating a miniature tree. To make a coffee topiary with your own hands, you will need a pot, a base (a ball or other shape), a stem blank, coffee beans, and decorative elements. Of the tools, you will probably need scissors, tweezers, a glue gun and a supply of hot glue.

We select a pot

Any topiary needs a pot or other container for planting. It is this part that determines the whole style of the tree in the future. And therefore, you should approach the choice of capacity with all responsibility. First of all, proceed from the interior of the room in which the topiary will be located in the future. You can pick up a flower pot to your taste by visiting the store indoor plants, or decorate any container suitable for your tree with your own hands.

Also, do not forget about what kind of topiary you have. A coffee tree, for example, looks good in a teapot or cup. But in general, you can use any container decorated with fabric, foil, and even just paper. Remember that the more magnificent the "crown" of the tree, the more restrained the pot should be.

What to make a trunk

Any interestingly curved branch can be suitable for the trunk, wooden skewer, a stick for eating sushi and even a wire wrapped in something cute.

Coffee topiary looks interesting if you wrap its trunk with a rope made of natural fiber. When choosing a trunk for a future tree, pay attention to the estimated size of the crown. After all, your tree as a whole should look proportional.

Planting in a pot

At this stage of the work, everything is simple. Since the weight of the grains glued to the crown is not small, it is best to fill the tree trunk in a pot with alabaster or gypsum. To do this, dilute the gypsum in a separate bowl to the consistency of thick sour cream and pour it into the container that you use as a pot. Leave this whole structure overnight. After the mass has completely hardened, decorate it on top in such a way that this design echoes the future crown of the tree. If you have a coffee topiary, then you can simply add a few coffee beans at the bottom or fill the entire space with them.

"Crown"

The "crown" of a tree may have a round shape, traditional for topiaries, or look somehow more unusual. The variety of "crowns" in this article will be illustrated by the master classes below. Topiary, whose coffee beans have a different shade, looks more interesting. The variety of colors of coffee beans is caused, as a rule, by the degree of their roasting. They can be lighter, almost black, white and even green. Topiary from coffee beans can be absolutely any shape, as well as any volume.

For the top, you can use purchased foam molds, or you can make them yourself, for example, using the papier-mâché technique. Or cut out a flat blank of the desired size from cardboard and give it a little volume on the sides. To do this, glue the cardboard with cotton pads. So that the peeking cotton wool does not spoil your topiary in the future, it is better to paint the coffee tree created in this way with brown paint or wrap it with natural rope. And then, using hot glue, attach the coffee beans. Sometimes even two layers should be done.

Heart with coffee aroma

Love and coffee can be perfectly combined in one product. An example of such a masterpiece is the heart coffee topiary. This is a wonderful gift for all coffee lovers, for example, for Valentine's Day.

To make such a product, it is necessary to cut a blank in the shape of a heart of the desired size from cardboard and arrange it in the manner described above. Choose the right pot. Do not be afraid to use all shades of red in such a composition. They go great with brown coffee. Decorate such a tree with lace, beads, ribbons or feathers. Add glitter and miniature hearts. Thus, a wonderful fragrant hand-made gift is ready.

coffee sunflower

Topiary sunflowers are quite original. The coffee aroma of these sunny flowers will please its owner enough long time. To complete the crown of a tree in the form of a sunflower, coffee beans alone will not be enough for you. With the help of coffee in these colors, only the middle ones are made. But the sunflower also has bright yellow petals. To make these petals, you can use fabric, satin ribbons, or paper.

They are very beautifully obtained from a satin ribbon, especially if you use different shades and widths. You can stencil the petals and scorch them over a candle or with a lighter. You can also use thin tape. In this case, cut it into pieces of the required length. Fold each piece in such a way that you get a loop, secure the ends of the tape by melting them over the candle. On a round piece of cardboard with hot glue, attach two or three standing petals. Each of these layers must be slightly overlapped with respect to the previous one. On the reverse side of the workpiece, attach the same loops of green ribbons. And from the side of the yellow petals - the middle, made of coffee beans.

Center for coffee sunflower

To make the middle of a sunflower topiary using coffee beans, take a Styrofoam ball or half of it and glue it with coffee beans in two layers. This is necessary to prevent the surface of the ball from showing through the grains. Before you start gluing, go through the grains and select all those that have the same size and shape. And although at first glance it may seem that the grains are no different from each other, nevertheless, upon closer examination, you will find elements that have certain disadvantages. Attach pasted balls or hemispheres to a cardboard base with petals. On the reverse side, make a hole into which the wire stem will be inserted. Decorate the entire composition with miniature insects.

Summing up, it can be noted that coffee topiary - for all its simplicity of execution - amazes with a variety of possible shapes and designs. It can become a wonderful souvenir for all occasions and symbolize any holiday.

In addition, its creation does not require too large financial costs, and the size of coffee beans contributes to the design of even the most unusual shapes"crowns". Which, of course, allows you to use your imagination to the fullest and apply a seemingly rather unusual decor.

Do-it-yourself topiary from coffee beans. Master Class

Master class with step by step photo"Topiary from coffee beans"

This master class is intended for middle-aged and older children, teachers of additional education, educators and all those who love to be creative and create masterpieces with their own hands.
Purpose: coffee topiary is a wonderful decoration of the interior of the apartment, original gift close people, made by hand.
Performed: Lapteva Svetlana Khristyanovna, educator of the state budgetary institution of the Novosibirsk region "Social and rehabilitation center for minors", Tatarsk
Target: making topiary from coffee beans.
Tasks:
- to teach the technology of making topiary;
- to instill skills of work and accuracy;
- develop aesthetic taste.
Coffee beans are by far the most popular material for creating topiary. They look quite chic, bring happiness to the house, have a unique aroma of coffee, which creates an atmosphere of warmth and comfort.

Making a topiary from coffee beans is not at all as difficult as it might seem at first glance. If you have ever made a miniature tree, then you will not have any difficulties, but if you decide to do it for the first time, then step by step process manufacturing, presented in the master class, will definitely help you.
To do the job you need:

- coffee beans;
- newspapers;
- sewing threads;
- PVA glue;
- scissors;
- building gypsum;
- a small disposable cup;
- cup;
- burlap;
- leg-split;
- glue gun;
- wire;
- toilet paper;
- pliers;
- wand.
We will begin the work with the manufacture of the crown of the topiary. It consists of a ball and a barrel.
We make a ball from newspapers and sewing threads. We crush the newspaper, giving it a round shape, We rewind each newspaper layer with threads, constantly leveling and giving the shape of a ball. The ball in diameter should be about 12-13 cm.

Tear pieces of paper and glue the ball. We do this so that the surface of the ball becomes more even.

This is how the ball should look after pasting with paper.

We make a cross-shaped cut on the ball, a tree trunk will be inserted into it.

We add a little coffee to the PVA glue and coat the ball with the resulting brown glue so that it is the same color as the coffee beans, in this case there will be no “holes” and unwanted gaps on the product. When we glue the grains, the base will be visible, therefore, by painting to match the coffee, the base will not show through so much. We give time to dry well.

Let's start making the barrel. We take the wire, fold it several times, since it is thin, we give it the shape of a snake.

We take a strip of paper, fold it in three layers along its length and wrap the snake around.

Having wrapped the snake completely along its entire length, grease it well with PVA glue and let it dry. This is done to make the snake more rigid.

We try on the resulting stem and determine the height. If necessary, the stem can be shortened. We wrap the trunk with twine. This is what a snake barrel looks like.

We take a stick and wrap it with twine.

Straight stem topiary.

We collect the tree trunk. We insert a straight stem into the middle of the snake. This is how the design should look like.

We insert a tree trunk into the cut of the ball. We fix, if necessary, with a glue gun around the barrel.

In a disposable cup, dilute gypsum with water to a creamy consistency and fix the crown in it.

Let's proceed to the most interesting and painstaking task - gluing the grains. We will glue with a glue gun.
We select grains that are even, the same in size. We try to glue the grain to the grain. Coffee beans should be placed as close as possible to each other. If you can't do this with your fingers, use small tongs.

Here's what happened.

We look where the base is visible, and glue the second layer of coffee beans. When the second layer of grains is glued, the surface texture will become more interesting, more embossed, and the tree itself will look nobler.

Having completed the design of the crown with grains, the tree can be "planted" in a pot. In the role of a pot, we use an ordinary simple glass. We take a piece of burlap 4 cm wide and glue it along the edge on the inside of the glass.

Fold down the burlap.

We apply glue to the bottom of the glass from the glue gun, glue our topiary to the bottom of the glass.

We fall asleep in the free space of a glass of coffee grains.

Decorate the topiary with a decorative element. We take a piece of burlap 10 cm long and 3 cm wide. We pull the threads from the middle of the strip.

We fold the workpiece in half and make a line.

We tighten the threads and form a flower.

We take 10 threads that were pulled out of the burlap, we tie them into a bundle, we make them of various lengths.

Using a glue gun, glue the coffee beans to the threads. We glue the two grains together by inserting a burlap thread between them.

Such a brush with grains turned out after gluing.

We insert the blank into the middle of the flower.

Glue three coffee beans on the flower.

We glue the decorative element on the crown of the tree.

The result of our work.
Original post by Irina_Snezhko

In principle, there are master classes on the Internet for creating coffee trees. But after I put my tree on display, questions still rained down. Therefore, I decided to create this master class.
So let's get started. We will need:

Ball (I took foam)
any brown thread
PVA glue
Super glue
stick for barrel
"pot"
gypsum
ribbon
and of course, fragrant coffee beans
and a lot of patience and diligence + 3-4 hours of time

Begin.
First, I wrapped the foam ball with threads. It is easier to glue grains on threads. They hold up better.

We fix the ends of the threads with PVA glue

Well, the preparation is over, we proceed to the main process. I recommend that you immediately outline a place for the nozzle of the trunk of our future tree, and in that place leave a "bald spot" with a diameter of somewhere from 1 cm.

We begin to glue the first layer of grains. At first I tried to make it with super glue, but it corrodes the foam. Therefore, we glue the first layer of PVA. It is more convenient to first apply glue to a small area of \u200b\u200bthe ball, and then apply grains to it.

When a small area is ready, gently press the grains against the ball with your palm so that they "sit down" in their places.

A little subtlety. If you have time, then after gluing half of the grains, it is better to let this design dry for half an hour. Otherwise, the grains on the wet adhesive shift and large gaps may remain.
When I decided to try again with the coffee tree for the second time, I began to make 2 coffee balls in parallel. While half of one dries up, I work with the second.
Well, if there is no time, then just gently glue the entire ball, and still leave it to rest until the glue dries completely.

Well, how? Are the grains already firmly attached to the base?
Then let's move on to the next step.
We start gluing the second layer coffee beans. This time we use super glue. And we glue the grains with the convex side down, attaching them to the gaps between the first layer of grains.

I don’t know about anyone, but it was not convenient for me to lubricate each grain with glue from a tube. So I just squeezed out a small amount of glue on the newspaper, and dipped the convex back of the grains in this puddle.

Close all gaps carefully. The work, to tell you honestly, is not only not very pleasant (the glue pretty "smells"), but the fingers are still in that state ... Oh well. The beauty of the interior also requires sacrifice. eight)))
Having completed the second layer, we leave our ball until it turns into a solid coffee fossil.

After making sure that the grains are firmly held, we insert the stick into the pre-planned place in the foam ball.

The remaining gaps are sealed with coffee beans.

This completes the process of working with the crown of the coffee tree. Unless you need to carefully peel off the thin frozen threads of glue.
Now let's move on to planting our tree in the "soil." eight)))
For this, I chose small glass pots made of dark brown glass.
In order for the tree to thoroughly "root" instead of the earth, I used gypsum. But since I didn’t want the white color of the gypsum to “tear” the eye through the glass, I added coffee grounds to it during kneading.

After the solution is ready, we “plant” our tree in it, and put this composition “under the wall” until the gypsum mass has completely hardened. I prefer to leave the plaster to harden overnight.

BUT finishing touches I've been adding since morning.
So that unaesthetic gypsum does not shock our eyes with its working simplicity, we fill the remaining space in the pot with hazelnuts.

We decorate the trunk with ribbons.

Well, perhaps that's all. This completes our work.

Now such a tree will delight the eye and fill the room with the aroma of coffee.
